Epic Games continues to grow big as they have recently acquired Hypersense, a real-time animation company.

With this acquisition in place, Epic Games is looking to introduce real-time face animations in Fortnite where player avatars will copy real face expressions of the players and that too in real-time. Hypersense will also collaborate with 3Lateral and Cubic Motion to “make content production more accessible.”

Hypersense will also join hands with the development team of Epic Games to build “new and better tools and systems for developers and players alike,” an official statement said.

Moreover, in the coming days, we will also a strong integration between Unreal Engine and Hypersense tech, this will make content production more awesome and accessible.

Now let’s talk about Hypersense, as many of you won’t be familiar with it. The company was formerly known as Binary VR which specialized in real-time capture of facial movements. This real-time data can then be recreated in 3D as a fully animated avatar.

Epic Games also commented on the acquisition, Kim Libreri said, “Bringing on the Hyprsense team enables us to continue pushing digital character innovation even further and approach the goal of giving all creators full control over expressing their vision down to the smallest nuance.”

Hypersense’s CEO Jihun Yu said, “We are proud and excited to bring our character animation technology into the Epic Games ecosystem. Joining Epic gives us the opportunity to deliver new solutions and experiences on a massive scale. We are so grateful to the Hypersense team for their tireless work to get us here, as well as our customers, partners, and supportive investors.”

Epic Games’ recent acquisitions show a strong inclination towards facial animation; 3Lateral best known for its digital humans’ technology got acquired in January 2019 and Cubic Motion is known for its facial animation technology at the start of 2020.
