No in-person Fortnite Events 2021 amid COVID-19 Crisis says Epic Games.

Epic games has decided not to hold in-person Fortnite events in 2021 amid uncertain conditions caused by the pandemic. The company is of the view that too much is “still unknown about what is practical and safe” due to the ongoing pandemic crisis.

The COVID-19 crisis has caused a lot of challenges for esports and gaming events which resulted in mass cancellations and postponement. Epic regards health and safety as their top priority for both its staff and Fortnite players in these challenging times. Even if a biosecure environment is created, uncertainty still prevails and it seems that it will persist for another year.

The announcement said, “With so much still unknown about what is practical and safe, we do not plan to hold in-person events in 2021, including a Fortnite World Cup.” It further added, “We will continue to provide online competitions throughout 2021 with the hopes that physical events, in some form, can return at some point in the future.”

However, this doesn’t mean that Fortnite events will get canceled altogether. The Fortnite Championship Series Invitational will continue next year with Season 5’s Chapter 2 set to start on the 4th of February. Epic further added that it is still searching for alternatives for high-level competitions for 2021 that could include more “weekly tournaments, unique tournaments, and Creator Cups throughout the year.”

It is notable that Fortnite’s recent event; Fortnite’s Marvel Finale, was the biggest event in Fortnite’s history which included more than 15.3 million concurrent users.

Despite the restrictions and social distancing, Fortnite competitive scene won’t get canceled. Epic promises more Fortnite tournaments with new formats but one thing is for sure that there would be no Fortnite World Cup next year.
